Javier Martinez’s lone goal in the extra-time sealed the victory for Bayern Munich as they defeated Sevilla 2-1 to win the Super cup.
Hansi Flick’s men struggled against a stubborn Sevilla side who we’re yet to lose a game since February and the Laliga side went ahead through Lucas Ocampos’ penalty.
Sevilla took the lead in the 13th minute through a penalty well converted by Lucas Ocampos but Leon Goretzka equalized for Bayern Munich in the 34th minute to end the first-half 1-1.
The Champions League winners thought they had taken the lead, six minute into the second half, Muller teep up Lewandowski, having intially been presented with the chance himself by the pole, but VAR spotted Bayern’s number nine was offside when first collecting Leroy Sane’s pass.
The second half continued which ended in 1-1
Martinez came on to replace Hernandez in the 99th minute and became the hero when he netted the winner five minute after the substitution.
He directed a header past Bounou in goal for Sevilla. Martinez also scored in 2013 Super cup match. It’s now 23 wins in a row for Bayern, who have gone 32 games without a defeat.
Bayern Munich will now face Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Sunday before they get another chance to win a silverware in the DFL-Supercup against Borussia Dortmund. Sevilla will start their Laliga campaign at newly promoted Cadiz on Sunday.
