Following the nationwide protest which led to the disbandment of the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has announced that the Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) will replace the unit.
The statement which was signed by the Force spokesperson, Frank Mba. on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, also noted that trainings are currently ongoing and that the members of the new team will also undergo psychological and medical examination to ascertain their fitness and eligibility for the new assignment.
The Inspector-General of Police also urged Nigerians to be patient while the reforms are being implemented.
It was also noted that the SARS officials have been ordered to return to Force Headquarters in Abuja for debriefing, psychological, and medical examination.
The officers will also be retrained and reoriented before being redeployed into mainstream policing duties
