Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich started their tittle defence in an emphatic fashion as they thrash Schalke 8-0 yesterday (September 18) at the Allianz Arena.
A hat-trick from Serge Gnabry and a lone goal from Leon Goretzka, Robert Lewandoski, Thomas Mueller, Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala was all the Bavarian needed to humiliate Schalke 04 in the opening game of the Bundesliga this season.
The goals started pouring in, in the 4 minute as Serge Gnabry open the goal account for Bayern. Leon Goretzka double the lead in the 19 minute of the encounter and prolific striker Robert Lewandoski wrap it up in the first half when he scored from the penalty spot in the 31st minute to end the first half 3-0 in favour of Bayern Munich.
Serge Gnabry continued from were he stopped in the first half as he scored a brace in the 47 and 59 minutes respectively to complete his hat-trick while Thomas Mueller, Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala scored in the 69, 71 and 81 respectively to take the tally to 8-0.
It was a poor start on the side of Schalke in the Bundesliga this season but what were you expecting after Bayern humbled Barcelona 8-0 in the Champions League last season. Great start for the Bavarians.
Bayern Munich travel to Budapest to face Europa League Champions Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup on Thursday, before returning to Bundesliga action at Hoffenhiem three days later, while Schalke will host Werder Bremen a week on Saturday.
