Chelsea has signed Paris Saint-Germain defender, Thiago Emiliano da Silva, commonly known as Thiago Silva, after spending five years with the Ligue 1 club.
The 35-year-old centre-back makes the deal on a free transfer and penned down a one-year contract with the option of extending for a further season.
Silva becomes Frank Lampard fifth major signing of the window, with Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Malang Sarr already snapped up.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the Brazilian expressed his happiness for joining Frank Lampard side.
“I am so happy to be joining Chelsea. I am delighted to be a part of Frank Lampard’s exciting squad for next season and I’m here to challenge for honours. See you soon Chelsea fans, I look forward to playing at Stamford Bridge very soon.” he said.
Chelsea’s director, Marina Granovskaia added: ‘We are delighted to be able to add a player of Thiago Silva’s proven world-class credentials to our squad.
‘Having performed at the highest level for many years, we have no doubt his experience and quality will complement the many exciting talents we already have here.
‘Thiago will be an excellent fit and we hope he can add some new trophies to his impressive list of honours.’
Silva made a total of 315 appearances, including 21 this season as PSG won a domestic treble.
Chelsea will kick-off their 2020-21 Premier League campaign away to Brighton and Hove Albion on September 14.
