Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Enugu Rangers has retires jersey number 15 for next season in honor of their late assistant captain Ifeanyi George.

“In honour of the services rendered by the late Ifeanyi George, the management has decided to retire his Jersey number 15 for next season,” a club statement said.

The 26-year-old died in a car accident on his way to Lagos along with his teammate Emmanuel Ogbu and Eteka Gabriel, a friend of George.

The car smashed into a parked articulated vehicle on the Onitsha-Agbor-Benin road expressway.

The players were going to Lagos on holidays after Rangers gave ten days break when the league was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

George joined the Flying Antelopes from Enyimba and won two caps for the Super Eagles.
