Following the drama by the Acting MD of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), during an interrogation by the House of Representatives Committee on NDDC, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio was also interrogated during which he revealed that some lawmakers were getting 60% of the contracts given by the NDDC.
This triggered the House of Representative members who gave Godswill Akpabio 48 hours to either list the names of the lawmakers or face the law.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila said;
“I’ve never once collected contracts from the NDDC and I know I can speak for many other members,”
“I am giving the minister 24 to 48 hours to publish the names, the contracts, the companies, date, amount and the projects,”.
“Failing which, this house will bring the full wrath of the house on him. It is important that we set this record straight.
“The minister owes it to himself, to the committee, to people of Niger Delta, and the country to publish it. I will reserve my judgment. The minister came there to play games, but we do not play games here.”
It was recalled that on Monday, July 20 2020, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, while responding to questions by the House of Representatives Committee on NDDC, noted that he was yet to approve any contract for the NDDC as most the contracts were given to members of the 9th National Assembly.
Godswill Akpabio also revealed that the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee was aware that the greatest beneficiaries of the NDDC contract were the House of Reps members.
