Premier League Champions, Liverpool, dominate the nominations for Premier League player of the season, the has three players on the shortlist: Jordan Henderson along with team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold and Sadio Mane.
Other nominees on the list are; Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy, Manchester City Star Kevin De Bruyne, Southampton striker Danny Ings and Burnley Goalie Nick Pope.
Liverpool’s captain Jordan Henderson was a driving force on and off the pitch. He won almost two-thirds of his tackles and recovered possession for his team 183 times during the campaign, while he also contributed four goals and five assists. Two of his goals came in 2-1 wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold played in every match of the title-winning season and was a key figure at both ends of the pitch. He provided 13 assists, the second-highest total in the Premier League, while also scoring four goals and earning 12 clean sheets.
The Senegalese attacker Sadio Mane scored 18 goals and added seven assists, often providing decisive moments of quality in close contests. He scored winners in five matches and won the stoppage-time penalty that secured a late victory over Leicester City.
The Premier League’s top scorer Jamie Vardy with 23 goals, the Leicester City striker scored 11 times with his right foot and nine times with his left. He was also a team player, delivering 31 crosses and creating 12 big chances, ultimately claiming five assists.
Kevin De Bruyne the Belgian set up 20 goals in 2019/20, equaling the Premier League record for a single season, and scored 13 himself. Two of his strikes won the Budweiser Goal of the Month award, and he was unfortunate not to have an even higher goal tally, having hit the woodwork six times.
Southampton striker Danny Ings doubled his best-ever goal tally for a season, scoring 22 times, just one fewer than Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy. When his two assists are added, Ings either scored or set up 47 per cent of Saints’ goals in 2019/20.
Burnley’s goalkeeper Nick Pope kept 15 clean sheets, just one fewer than Golden Glove winner Ederson. Notably, Pope made 120 saves during the season, 52 more than the Manchester City No 1.
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is the current holder of the award, he won it last season for his wonderful performance for the Reds, while Norman Hunter of Leeds United is the first winner of award.
