Manchester United began their 2020-21 Premier League season on a losing note as Crystal Palace beat them 3-1 at Old Trafford.

A brace from Wilfred Zaha and a lone goal from Andros Townsend was all the Eagles needed to defeat the Red Devils.

Townsend gave the Eagles the lead in the seventh-minute and the game was in balance till the end of first half.

27th minutes into the second half, the Eagles were awarded a penalty, after Jordan Ayew’s flick struck the hand of Victor Lindelof.

United Goalkeeper David De Gea saved the spot kick from Ayew, only for referee Martin Atkinson to called for a re-take and this time Zaha stepped up and smash the ball into the net to make it 2-0 for palace.

United new signing Donny Van De Beek came on as a substitute for Paul Pogba in the 67th minute and gave the Red Devils a bit of hope when he scored his first goal for United in the 80th minute.

Zaha reply him five minute later, when he scored palace third goal to complete his brace. This was the first time in Crystal Palace history, to have won the first two games of a top-flight season.


United will play Luton Town on Tuesday in the EFL cup and will be back in action in the Premier League on Saturday when they will take on Brighton and Hove Albion.

Palace will tackle table toppers Everton also on Saturday by 3pm at Selhurst Park.
