A 22-year-old musician, Yahaya Sharif, has been sentenced to death by hanging for singing against prophet Muhammad.
According to a Kano Upper Shari’a Court sitting at Hausawa Filin Hockey, the musician was given the verdict on Monday, August 10, after he was found guilty of Blasphemy.
It was reported that after singing the song against Prophet Muhammad, the musician went into hiding, after the song circulated via a social media platform, Whatsapp.
As a result of the incident, protesters went to his family’s home, burnt it down, and proceeded to the Kano Hisbah command’s headquarters, which is a Kano State-owned security outfit that enforces the Shariah law in the state.
According to critics, the song was blasphemous as it praised an imam from the Tijaniya Muslim brotherhood to the extent it elevated him above the Prophet Muhammad.
The musician’s father, Aminu Sharif, revealed he had disowned his son and sent him out of the house as he never shared the same ideologies with him.
I want to categorically inform the general public that blasphemy is not my ideology, and I promise to arrest him (my son) and hand him over to security agents whenever he is found.
“If I had the authority to punish him by law, I will do that right away,
