NPFL Matchday 5 Wrap: Rivers United return to winning ways

This is the wrap of matchday 5 of the 2020-21 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

Nine matches were played, three games ended in a draw, six home wins occurred and no team won away.

A total of nineteen goals were scored with the statisticians recording an average of two goals per game approximately.

The home teams scored fourteen goals while the away teams scored only five goals.

return to winning ways at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium beating Heartland FC of Owerri 3-1.

Aguda Godwin scored from the penalty spot 19th minute into the first-half to give the Pride of Rivers the lead.

Kazie Enyinnaya doubled the lead for Stanley Eguma’s men in the 64th minute. Shedrack Oghal scored a consolation goal for the visitors in the 77th and Malachi Ohawume completed the 3-1 scoreline when he scored in the 85th minute.

Pleateau United kept a clean sheet at the New Jos Stadium, Zaria beating Adamawa United 3-0. Goals scored by Amos Gyang (Pen), Kingsley Innocent and Wasiu Jimoh.

Nasarawa United beat Katsina United 1-0 at the Lafia City Stadium.

Kano Pillars tested their first defeat of the season at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba. The Peoples Elephant beat Sai Masu Gida 2-1 to return to winning ways after their 1-3 lose to Jigawa Golden Stars in matchday 4.

Enyimba took the lead in the first-half through Anayo Iwuala and Gabriel Orok in the 21′ and 38′ minute while Fahad Usman scored a consolation goal for the visitors in the 86th minute.

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba makes his debut for Kwara United as they held Jigawa Golden Stars to a goalless draw.

In Nnewi, FC Ifeanyiubah played out a 1-1 draw with buttom of the table, Abia Warriors.

Mountain of Fire and Miracles FC (MFM) and Enugu Rangers settled for a 1-1 draw at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium, Lagos.

Austin Ogunye and Mathias Samuel scored for Lobi Stars as they overpowered Dakkada FC 2-1 at the Aper Aku Stadium.

In Akure, Sunshine Stars beat Warri Wolves 1-0. Goal scored by Sadeeq Yusuf in the 90th minute.

The programme for Match Day five will be concluded on Monday with Akwa United facing Wikki Tourists at the Nest of Champions, the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
