Since Rivers United FC was formed by the merger of Sharks FC and Dolphins FC in 2016, Sammy has been the club spokesman until his resignation.
Rivers United finished in second place behind league leaders, Plateau United, with 45 points from 25 games and have a goal difference of +13 before the league was ended using the Point Per Game (PPG) model due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The PPG and Weighted Points Per Game (WPPG) model was adopted to end the league and to determine the club that will represent Nigeria in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) club competitions, by the League Management Company (LMC), the body in charge of organizing the NPFL.
Former league champions Enyimba finished second on both the PPG and WPPG tables behind first placed Plateau United while Rivers United finished third.
BREAKING: @LMCNPFL confirms final league table for 2019/20 season via the PPG and WPPG models.:
1st is Plateau United
2nd is Enyimba
3rd is Rivers United.ALOHA pic.twitter.com/uEBGG322Fg

This means Enyimba will join Plateau United as Nigeria’s representatives in next season’s CAF Champions League while Rivers United will join Kano Pillars (2019 Aiteo Cup winners) in the Confederation Cup.
