Real Madrid center-back, Raphaël Xavier Varane ,has come out to say the defeat the Los Blancos suffered last night in the hands of Manchester City is totally his fault.
Speaking to journalist after the match Varane said:
“This defeat is mine. I have to assume that. This defeat is my responsibility”, he told Movistar.
“We prepare well for it, but mistake cost you. I can’t explain the mistake – it can happen in football.
“I’m sad for my team-mates, until 1-1, we had a chance to go through and today it didn’t go well.
This has not happen to me very often before. You have to have character to come back stronger”.
Raheem Sterling put the Citizens ahead 9 minutes into the first-half after Varane lost possession to Gabriel Jesus in the eighteen yard box. Karim Benzema equalized in the 28 minutes with a superb header from Rodrygo’s cross to end the first-half 1-1.
Gabriel Jesus the Brazilian, ended Madrid journey in the Champions League in the second-half of game when he scored in the 68 minutes of the encounter from a poor header off Varane’s head to Thibaut Courtois.
