An Imo State traditional ruler, Eze Andrew Okuegbunuwa, his cousin and others have been arrested by the Imo state Police Command over allegedly committing various crimes such as kidnapping, robbery, rape, among others.
The traditional ruler of Obor community, who hails from Awara, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo, was arrested and paraded alongside 7 other suspects.
According to Mr Issac Akinmoyede, the Commissioner of Police in Imo, the other suspects arrested are; Uzoma Bernard, 65; Fabian Obioha, 60; Ogechi Obioha, 30; Kennedy Okwuonu, 40; Ebenezer Obioha, 38; and Ikechukwu Njoku, 32.
Mr Akinmoyede accused the traditional ruler of being behind providing the gang with the vehicle used for the operations, as four AK-47 rifles, one rifle, 120 rounds of live ammunition, one Lexus SUV were recovered from the suspects.
The commissioner of Police also added that the sum of N4.2 million which was collected as ransom from one of the kidnapped victims, was also recovered.
He added that the traditional ruler got N3 million from the over N7 million the gang got as ransom in one of their operations.
