RB Leipzig booked their place in the UEFA Champions League semi-final with Paris Saint-German on Tuesday August, 18 after they beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 last night in Lisbon, Portugal.
A late goal from Tyler Shaan Adams was all Julian Nagelsmann’s men needed to dump Diego Simeon’s men out of the Champions League.
Dani Olmo put RB Leipzig ahead in the 50th minute when he knocked the ball into the back of net from Marcel Sabitzer’s cross but Joao Felix equalized for Atletico Madrid from the penalty spot in the 71st minute.
RB Leipzig countered with two minutes remaining and Angelino’s cutback ran for Adams to shoot hard and low, earning a deflection from Savic to wrong-foot Oblak and ball was in the back of the net.
RB Leipzig is the first German side outside Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund to reach the Semi-finals of the Champions League since Schalke 04 in 2010-11 season.
Dani Olmo is the first Spaniard to score against Atletico in the Champions League since Michel netted for FK Qarabag in October 2017.
Atletico Madrid have failed to progress against a German side in the Champions League knockout stages for the first time getting through all three previous occasions (vs Bayern Leverkusen twice and Bayern Munich once).
