England international, Oliver George Arthur Watkins, has joined Premier League club Aston Villa from Championship side Brentford for a reported club-record fee of £28million, the transfer fee could potentially rise to £33million with add-ons.
The 24-year-old who is a product of the Exeter City academy penned down a five-year deal that will keep him at Villa Park until the summer of 2025.
Speaking to the club’s official website Watkins expressed his happiness joining his former boss Dean Smith.
“I am so excited to join Aston Villa and to reunite with Dean Smith as my Head Coach. I cannot wait to wear the famous claret and blue in the Premier League. I want to do something special here and score some goals.”
Watkins finished last season as Championship join top scorer with Aleksandar Mitrovic on 26 goals.
Head Coach Dean Smith added: “Ollie has developed into one of the most sought-after strikers in the country and we are looking forward to seeing him show his great qualities in an Aston Villa shirt. He is a hugely determined character who has both the ability and personality to succeed at the highest level.”

Sheffield United on Monday September 21 by 6pm
